1 | TPDCONNECT AUGUST 2018 FROM THE “ Emancipate yourself from mental slavery” words from Bob Marley’s redemption song rang out in this past season reminding us that “none but ourselves can free our minds, ” words that urge us to remove the shackles that subconsciously hold us back and keep us from achieving our full potential. So too did all the cultural expressions that make us uniquely Jamaican. I particularly enjoyed the rehashing of all the past festival songs on the various radio stations and the Grand Gala. I trust it was a proud and memorable time for you. I n this edition of TPDConnect we share with you highlights of our achievements over the period, The Tourism Summer Intern Programme has been expanded to accommodate even more youngsters who benefit tremendously from the experience and the economic benefits the programme provides. The training department has come in for high commendations and are gearing up to partner with the Council of Community Colleges of Jamaica to deliver our flagship training programme “Team Jamaica” to hundreds more across Jamaica. Our team members have been “Out and About” and we celebrate Broughton Primary, the little school from Westmoreland which starred in the inaugural TPDCo Tourism quiz. They warmed our hearts, as did the collaboration of all tourism agencies that came together to make it possible. Also in this summer edition we meet Asheeka Harriot, check out workplace wellness tips and more. I encourage you to participate in our “Riddle me dis Riddle me Dat” section, share in the fun and win for yourselves TPDCo branded items. Until next time I leave you with the words of National Hero Marcus Garvey who said “the black skin is not a badge of shame, but rather a glorious symbol of national greatness” One Love, Marline
