TOWARDS A PRO-ACTIVE SPORTS STADIUM INFRASTRUCTURE IN NIGERIA Paper BY CHUKWUEMEKA EJIKE | Page 15
CONCLUSION
Building
a
sports
stadium
can
increase
aggregate
demand
of
the
economy,
creating new jobs, thus increasing employment based on the multiplier effect. In the long run,
this will lead to economic development. Building a stadium also increases competition thereby
opening
new
business
opportunities.
Therefore
there
would
be
an increase in investment, which also helps increase the total income of the country or city.

The stadium would lead to an increase in transportation revenue, of air, rail, land and sea
transport systems. It would increase the import and export network, because people would want
to
come
to
your
city
and
watch
sporting
and
other
events
(tourism).
Stadia have a role in helping to create vibrant image for a town or city as that could
be used as part of tourism infrastructure.

Maximizing the ‘commercialization’ of a stadium requires an imaginative and energetic
approach, specialist advice, solid market research and a clever marketing strategy.
Stadium operators have become increasingly creative in their efforts to identify additional
income streams by capitalizing on the needs of the local community and the broader market.

Commercial initiatives may include:
• Extending use of the stadium to non-match days, for example, by providing facilities
and
activities
for
the
local
community
throughout
the
week.
• Identifying other events that can be staged at the stadium: social, religious and political events
such
as
concerts,
festivals
crusades
and
party
rallies.
• Providing bars, restaurants and other amenities that encourage spectators to spend
