Conference of the glorious history of Colombian Independence.

In the frame of the celebration of the Independence of Colombia, a conference related to the most important facts of our history was held at Centro Colombo Americano, located in La Factoría street, in the Old City.

The aim of this event was to inform the audience about the most important facts of the Independence of Colombia between 1810 and 1830, in order to reflect on the preconceived ideas colombian people have about the reasons that promoted the independence.

The event was moderated by Alfredo Pérez, Historian and professor of Unicolombo Hotel and Administration Program, and the invited lecturers were Juan Gossain Abdala, journalist and writer, and Manuel Domingo Rojas, laywer and member of the Cartagena History Academy.

Both lecturers agreed that the Colombian independence movement was not part of a real patriotic idealism and they drew attention to the role of the woman in this historic self-government challenge.

In conclusion, Gossain and Rojas encouraged the audience to remember the participation of Manuelita Saénz, Manuela Beltrán and Policarpa Salavarrieta and take into account some facts that influenced this movement. The siege of Cartagena de Indias in 1815 and the crisis of the Monarchy of Spain in 1808, were two of them.
