San Basilio de Palenque : a visit to a slave resistance history

In order to descover the intangible heritage of San Basilio de Palenque, the 3rd. semester students from Unicolombo Hotel and Tourism Adminitration Program had the opportunity to visit this important place in Colombian history.

Palenque is a historic-cultural reference in terms of slave resistance in America and the whole world. That is the reason why the term “palenque” is related to this place that was populated by cimarrons during the colonial period. That is how this village symbolizes universal freedom and was declared Masterpiece of the Oral and Intagible Heritable of Humanity by UNESCO.

Palenque owns its proper traditional elements which make of this place a testimony of the African identity that trascends the history of our country.
