Define adventure . For me , adventure is the pursuit of something new , in whatever shape that takes . Whether it ’ s a month-long exploration of South America ’ s least travelled country or a long stay at the beach , it can all count .
At the time of travel , I was in my last year of my undergraduate degree at the University of York ’ s management school . A quiet city in the north east of England filled with charismatic pubs and sweet little coffee shops providing that Sunday fix . Everyone had their favourite spot . Mine ? I loved the Gatehouse coffee positioned within the historic city walls . Unpolished rickety floor boards , vintage rugs thrown over welcome sofas and great coffee , I always felt comfortable .
Specifically , the second floor was where I did my best thinking and is where I decided on travel to Guyana .
My passion for reptiles has taken me to some of the world ’ s least trodden territories . From King Cobras in the mountains of Bali , to African Rock Pythons in Kruger bush land , adventure has always been linked to snakes for me . This trip was no different . Guyanese jungles are home to some of the most famous scaled celebrities . The heaviest snake in the world , the green anaconda , was a particular inspiration behind my expedition . Olive green with dark blotches , the Anaconda ’ s beauty is masked effortlessly by the murky amazon waters where it spends time waiting for unsuspecting prey . They say you shouldn ’ t meet your hero ’ s , but what ’ s life without whimsy ?
British airways still runs the best flight from London Heathrow to Miami , and from there it ’ s only a small hop to Georgetown , Guyana . Arriving , it was rainy season and I could smell it in the air . Scarlet Macaws were squawking and street dogs barking as we arrived at our B & B in the early hours . The sense of adventure had arrived . We only had 24 hours in Georgetown before catching a second flight into the interior jungle . Fortunately , this was
