Kangaroo Island offers some of the best fishing anywhere is South
Australia. At the top of the list is the famous King George Whiting,
arguably the finest table fish in the country. There are many great spots
around the island to wet a line and try your luck. Fishing charters are
available for hire and fishing gear and rods can be rented at the KI Tourist
Information Centre in Penneshaw, and bait can be purchased from most
petrol stations on the island.
SAFETY FIRST
If you are going fishing, it’s a good
idea to check the weather and
tide times before you go. Don’t be
caught out in a storm.
For the latest weather and
tide times, visit the Bureau of
Meteorology. You’ll find weather
warnings for South Australia,
rain radars, weather maps, district
forecasts, tide locations and times.
Don’t forget to protect yourself
from the sun, especially when
out on the
open water or
spending a day
fishing.

When fishing in South Australia,
be aware of protected species,
marine park sanctuary zones,
minimum sizes, bag limits and
licenses. There are penalties if you
break the law.
It is important to remember
that bag and size limits apply to
most fish species caught in South
Australian waters. Some fish also
have closed seasons and others are
completely protected. The limits
vary, so it is important to make
sure you are well aware of what
you can catch and how much of it
you can take home.
Try your luck at fishing at Penneshaw’s Hog
Bay Jetty - Tommy ruff, Trevally, Snook and King
George whiting are common here and can be caught
in peaceful, picturesque surroundings. The beach at
Pennshaw is an excellent sandy swimming beach,
its picnic spots make it a destination popular with
families, and above the beach there is a grassy picnic
reserve complete with BBQ’s.
With native bush land, wildlife, adventure &
exploring, with pristine beaches, local wines & sunsets
