Two-story addition; master bath and bedroom remodel; garage conversion; exterior makeover
Although the initial focus of this remodel was to provide more space for recreation and entertaining, the completed project added several other amenities. This was accomplished by reconfiguring existing space and adding a two car garage with a 564 sq. ft. second floor above.
The closet in the foyer was removed to enlarge the opening into the family room, and the entry’ s flooring was replaced with hardwood, giving a glimpse of the home’ s new persona. The existing linen closet and hallway was redesigned to provide access to the second floor of the addition.
A large playroom, office / bedroom and a full hall bath constitute the upper level addition. The vaulted ceiling playroom was designed with window seats, two closets, and views of the front, side and back yards. A tray ceiling complements the office / bedroom.
Peterson combined the existing master bedroom, and master and hall baths into a totally recreated master suite. The soft blue walls of the bedroom correspond to the ocean-like palette of the bathroom. A window from the vanity area looks into the pebbled floor shower. The pecan finish vanity with granite countertop is paired with a painted mirror and brushed nickel light fixture. A new walk-in closet with built-in storage is brightened by a skylight.
On the second floor, a new HVAC system and the replacement of old insulation with Icynene foam insulation reduced allergens and greatly improved comfort, as well as heating and cooling efficiency. A home security system was also added.
The former garage was redesigned to include a recreation room, exercise area, a laundry( relocated from the kitchen), a full bathroom and two storage closets. A wet bar has black Arts and Crafts cabinetry with a granite countertop and brushed nickel hardware. Stained concrete provides a durable floor for family activity.
Major exterior updates include new covered front and rear porches, vinyl siding to provide an accent to existing stone, windows emphasized with trim surrounds, and new shingles on the entire roof. The new curved patio with an area for grilling is located off the recreation room. A shelving system allows the new garage to double as a home business workspace.
