The Van Avermaet card
This is the most enigmatic WorldTour team. The successor to BMC, which
was also managed by Jim Ochowicz, it now bears the Polish fl ag. The team’s
major asset is Greg Van Avermaet. In 2016, the Belgian took the yellow
jersey in the medium mountains of the Cantal. He’ll fi nd there are plenty of
stages of that type this year. In his search for a stage victory – and perhaps
even the yellow jersey that he wore again last year – he will be relying on
some strong teammates: Michael Schär, Laurens Ten Dam and Serge
Pauwels. This group should oft en liven up the action.
