We’re inviting them to come out of the shadows when the race enters the Vosges and the medium mountains. On a route that passes through Alsatian villages that are each as stunning as the next, the stand-out points are the Côte du Haut-Koenisbourg, which climbs in front of the medieval château of the same name, and the Côte des Trois-Épis. It’s a picture-postcard setting, but on the road there’ll be a big sort-out within the peloton. It should be a straight fight between the baroudeurs and puncheurs at the finish.
