Meet two women who are living the life they choose with passion ,
28 year old Toowoomba local and CPL client Laura Scurr describes her life as “ quite unique ”.
“ My early childhood consisted of multiple physio , OT and speech therapy sessions at CPL ,” she said .
“ But once it was time for school , my parents made sure that my therapy schedule had minimal impact on my education . They expected the same of me as they did for my able bodied brothers and they actively encouraged me into further education and employment .”
After completing her undergraduate degree at the University of
Southern Queensland , Laura began her search for work . After more than 150 job applications and one rewarding but only partially paid role as an administration assistant , Laura decided to start her own business , Toowoomba ’ s Business Solutions .
Toowoomba ’ s Business Solutions is a virtual admin business which assists small business owners with a variety of everyday administration tasks .
From designing forms to creating presentations , and the writing of Business Capability Statements , Laura ’ s business offers over 15 services to organisations all around Australia .
In 2015 , Laura was named as a finalist in the Community Dedication category of the Women In Business Awards alongside other business owners from across the Darling Downs . And , on International Women ’ s Day this year , Laura was recognised as a future leader of Toowoomba .
Plus , in October , she was appointed to the Queensland Government ’ s South West Regional Disability Advisory Council .

I ’ m really passionate about people with disabilities participating in the workforce and finding meaningful employment .
”
In her spare time , Laura also provides mentoring for families at CPL ’ s Toowoomba office .
“ When you or your child is first diagnosed with a disability , it can be so overwhelming . I like to chat to parents and also kids to show them what ’ s possible for the future . Education is so important ,” she said .
