What’s Inside? Tribute to Laurel Evans I’m writing to you with a heavy heart to announce the passing of Laurel Evans, one of our long serving employees. For those of you who knew Laurel, you would know that she had been living with cancer for the last few years. She passed away in late February. We encounter many people throughout our lives and some, like Laurel, have a huge positive impact, which stays with us forever. Laurel’s most recent role has been as Service Manager of CPL’s home and community support services in the Ipswich region. With nearly 22 years of service at CPL, she has worked across the organisation in various roles. She started out as a Personal Care Assistant at what was then called Laurel worked with CPL for over 20 years. 7 Oaks (now where our Fig Tree Pocket service is located), and then became a Service Facilitator. Laurel later relocated closer to home, first to CPL’s Toowoomba service before spending her most recent years working at our Springfield service. She’s had some great successes throughout her career, and most recently opened up community outreach services at Leichardt and Fig Tree Pocket. Laurel also linked clients with the MyCube retail outlets at the Myer Centre and Sunnybank, providing clients the opportunity to profit from their jewellery making skills and creativity. Laurel has been a leading example of CPL’s message of Choice, Passion and Life. Despite being ill, Laurel came to work full of passion and enthusiasm, committed to supporting clients and staff in the most positive way, working with them to achieve their goals and doing so joyfully. She always had a ‘can do’ approach and was a positive team player. Her smiling face and collaborative spirit will always be remembered fondly by staff, clients and families and continue to inspire us to be the best we can be. I hope you will join me in remembering the joy that Laurel has brought to CPL and celebrate the huge legacy she has left. Laurel (centre back) and the team and CPL’s Springfield team.
