TOUCH vol. 4 | Page 21

Once an experience like that comes forth – perhaps from years past – it needs to be “processed” in order for it to be completely released from your body. Just like we might initially suppress these emotions in order to literally survive an event, if we suppress this recollection then we are basically sending it back to our body to be stored again. And so it becomes cyclical. Unless we allow ourselves to FEEL whatever comes up. It’s important to recognize our own traumas (along the full spectrum of minor to major) as they arise. In order to really move through them it’s a really valuable tool to have a space where you feel at ease to truly surrender to the sensations. This might be at home, or it might be with an accredited health care professional, or it might be with your tribe/community – doesn’t matter where, it just matters that we all have that space where we feel safe enough to be open to feeling. The only other thing I’ll add here – if you have an emotional release in a treatment (of any kind) or with friends – please don’t apologize for it. Don’t apologize for feeling and releasing all that past “stuff”. Just let it happen. Drew.
