Race Report
2023
Let ’ s take a look back at the last edition of Totalsports Women ’ s Race Durban , which delivered a big showdown between two of SA ’ s promising young female talents .
A packed start for the 2023 edition of the race
Cacisile Sosibo was leaving nothing to chance in last year ’ s Totalsports Women ’ s Race Durban . She entered the race because of its fast , flat course , and took full advantage of that as she claimed her first Totalsports Women ’ s Race victory in 33 minutes 31 seconds . The previous year ’ s winner , Tayla Kavanagh , had to settle for second place this time round , with Jenet Mbhele rounding off the podium .
After the race , Sosibo said that thought and planning went into her appearance in Durban . “ With the Totalsports Women ’ s Race event taking place in more than one province , our Boxer Athletics Club had to spread our runners out between the events . I specifically entered the Totalsports Women ’ s Race Durban because the course is flat , and the turns aren ’ t complicated , she explained . “ I enjoy this event because it ’ s for women , and there aren ’ t any men that you need to compete against , so I could just run my best and prove that women can also run . I am so happy to win today . I feel powerful ! I ’ m a winner !”
“ We had a fantastic time celebrating National Women ’ s Day with a sea of enthusiastic runners and walkers , all dressed in pink , symbolising unity across our vibrant cities . Each city boasted an electrifying energy and incredible vibe ,” said Jonathan Stein , Head of Totalsports . “ A heartfelt congratulations goes out to Cacisile Sosibo for her outstanding achievement , claiming gold in the Totalsports Women ’ s Race 10km in Durban . And we would like to thank each and every participant and spectator who joined us today ; your unwavering support makes this event possible .”
