RACE INFO
THE ROUTE
Here’ s all the need-to-know info about the route of the Ultra Marathon and Half Marathon, including hydration stations, vibe points, medical support and waste disposal.
ROUTE MAPS
Please study your route map carefully ahead of race day and familiarise yourself with the course. Be sure to follow all instructions from marshals along the route at all times.
Please note: In the event of a natural disaster or other major incident( such as a fire on Chapman’ s Peak), any changes to the race route will be promptly communicated and widely shared, including via WhatsApp. We work closely with the relevant authorities to ensure a safe and seamless transition should adjustments be required.
HYDRATION STATIONS
Hydration is key to your race-day success. With 19 hydration stations on the Ultra Marathon route and 7 on the Half Marathon route, your needs will be well supported. At each station, you will find water, Coca-Cola and Powerade, served in clearly colour-coded cups for easy identification.
Due to the higher runner density at the early stages of the race, water sachets will be used at the first hydration points only – specifically, the first two stations on the Ultra Marathon and the first station on the Half Marathon.
Oversized disposal bins and clearly marked waste zones will be positioned after each station to support responsible waste management. We ask all runners to dispose of cups and sachets in these designated areas.
Stay hydrated, but avoid overhydration. Drink when you feel thirsty and allow your training to guide your intake. Be sure to adjust your fluid consumption according to the weather conditions on race day, and avoid experimenting with unfamiliar drinks.
WASTE AND LITTER
The Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon powered by BYD has a zerotolerance policy on littering anywhere along the route, including at the start, hydration stations, and the finish. This forms part of our ongoing commitment to environmental preservation. Littering is defined as disposing of waste anywhere other than in the designated bins provided. This includes items such as paper cups, bottles, wrappers and containers, whether supplied by the event or brought along by participants.
Littering is considered intentional when a disposal bin is within a reasonable distance and is not used. Any runner found guilty of intentional littering may face disqualification, disciplinary action and / or exclusion from future Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon events.
VIBE POINTS
A number of vibe spots, cheer zones, and activations will be set up along the route to keep your energy high throughout the race. Feel free to soak up the atmosphere – dance, sing along, and enjoy the support! Please be mindful, however, that any excessively loud music played from backpacks, personal devices, or vehicle sound systems by participants or supporters must be kept at a reasonable level and comply with the City of Cape Town bylaws.
MEDICAL SUPPORT
For the Ultra Marathon, there will be 10 medical stations positioned along the course, each staffed by professional medical personnel and physiotherapists. For the Half Marathon, there will be six medical stations available on the course, ensuring comprehensive coverage for all runners. Each medical station will include four physiotherapists that can help with any injury problems you may pick up.
In addition, ambulances will be strategically located along both routes to provide rapid transport to the nearest medical station, or directly to hospital if required.
At the Finish at UCT, a fully equipped medical facility will be on site, staffed with doctors, nurses and physiotherapists, and supported by an Intensive Care Unit. We are proud to partner with Mediclinic and ER24, delivering world class medical services throughout the event.
The emergency medical telephone number for duration of race weekend is 021 023 2720.
CUT-OFFS
Cut-off times along the route are set primarily to ensure that roads can be reopened safely and on schedule. They also allow officials to identify runners who are unlikely to reach the next cut-off or the final finish cut-off within the allocated time, so that they can be safely withdrawn from the course.
It is important to understand that cut-off times are not pacing guidelines. Runners who pace themselves according to cut-off times risk arriving too late at subsequent points or missing the final finish cut-off. The tables below provide indicative pacing times for runners starting in the final batch, showing the pace required to reach the finish just before the final cut-off. To finish comfortably within the time limit, runners are encouraged to maintain a pace faster than these guidelines.
