PARKING

GETTING THERE … and Back

Nothing is a stressful as running late for a big running event, so make sure you’ ve mapped out and planned getting to the start venue, parking the car, walking to the start, and getting back again after your run.

With 14,000 entrants in the Ultra Marathon on the Saturday, and 17,000 in the Half Marathon on the Sunday, you need to plan your transport strategy for race day at the Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon powered by BYD. Due to limited parking near the start precinct in Newlands, and the fact that the start venue is a little way from the finish venue at UCT, the ideal solution is to make use of an e-hailing, share-ride or car-pool option, or to catch the special trains laid on for the event. That way you don’ t have to worry about parking, and you can focus all your energy on your run!

So, here’ s everything you need to know about getting to the race venue, parking and more.
USING E-HAILING( OR BEING DROPPED OFF)
To avoid any concerns about parking on race day, a great option for runners is to use an e-hailing service and be dropped off near the start, then use the same service to get back home again after your run. If you do go this route, you can ask to be driven to the following drop points:
• From Cape Town: Corner of Main Road and Rouwkoop Road – walk straight to the back of the chute.
• From Claremont or the Southern Suburbs: Corner of Main Road and Draper Road, before Virgin Active / Protea Road – follow the Virgin Active parking path.
DRIVING IN WITH YOUR OWN CAR
ACCESS ROUTES
Road closures will take place on 11 and 12 April 2026 for the duration of the two races, and there will be many runners and supporters on the road around the start venue on race day. Please plan for additional time on your route to compensate for traffic and to find parking. Please study the road closures ahead of time.
Runners and spectators coming from the City Centre, Northern, Southern and Eastern Suburbs, Winelands, and Hout Bay will be arriving via the M3, N2, M5 and Imam Horan Road( M24). The start is a short walk from the various parking areas, and marshals will guide you to your respective starts.
Here area few suggested routes to take, depending on which direction you are coming from:
• From the City Centre: Take Nelson Mandela Boulevard to the N2 and then Exit 8 to Liesbeeck Parkway( M57). Turn right and proceed straight onto Campground and then Palmyra Roads, where pre-paid parking is available at Groote Schuur High School fields.
• From the Northern Suburbs: From the N1 or Koeberg Road, proceed onto the M5, then the N2 westbound and then Liesbeeck Parkway( Exit 8). At Liesbeeck Parkway turn left and then proceed straight onto Campground and Palmyra Roads, where pre-paid parking is available at Groote Schuur High School fields. Alternatively, take the N1, then the R300, then the N2 and then Liesbeeck Parkway( Exit 8).
• From the Eastern Suburbs and Winelands areas: Take the N2 and then the Liesbeeck Parkway offramp( Exit 8). Turn left and proceed straight onto Campground and Palmyra Roads. Alternatively, take Imam Horan Road onto Palmyra Road.
TAKING THE TRAIN
To make race morning easier for both runners and spectators, the Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon powered by BYD has partnered with PRASA Western Cape to provide dedicated, safe, convenient and reliable Metrorail services on race weekend. This partnership forms part of the event’ s commitment to safe transport, reduced congestion, and a better race-day experience for everyone. Runners can thus use the train to get to the start or back home after your run, and Ultra Marathon spectators can even move along the route, to support their runners, and then return to the finish.
Besides the normal schedule of trains operating on the Saturday and Sunday of race weekend, PRASA Western Cape will operate a special train service for runners on both days, with return tickets costing as little as R20 per ticket. Please purchase your Race Day Metrorail ticket from the Prasa Train Ticket counter at Registration.
More Info Here: Turn to page 62 for more info on the PRASA services, including a direct link to the timetables so that you can plan your journey to the Start.
We strongly encourage participants and supporters to make use of the train services to avoid road closures, traffic congestion, and parking restrictions around the start and finish areas.
PARKING
Pre-paid parking tickets for UCT and areas close to the start( at various nearby schools) will be sold at the Parking Counter at Registration. These tickets will be sold on a first come, first served basis, so please ensure to come early. Maps of the area together with a QR code directing you to the start line will be printed on your parking disc.
Please Note: No parking is allowed on the M3, and anyone parking in contravention of road signs will be ticketed or your vehicle may be towed away if it is obstructing the route.
Check the Maps: An overview Map of the four parking areas near the start appears on the page alongside, while zoomed in maps of each of these four parking areas, with recommended walking routes to the Start, appear on the following pages.
Due to the limited parking at both the start and finish venues, we would like to encourage runners to make use of public transport, or share lifts as far as possible to alleviate the congestion on the roads on race day.
