TRAIL RUN

ALL THE TRAIL Winners

The distances of both the Long and Short Trail Runs have changed over the years, and some years were missed due to COVID or due to logistical reasons, so the lists of winners have some missing dates, and finishing times do vary substantially.

From the Organiser
Further advice from the course designer, Trevor Ball, is that runners should keep this 10-point checklist in mind: 1. Keep expectations realistic – mountain running times are much slower than road running. 2. Don’ t go out too hard on the first hill. 3. Walking is OK. 4. Good hydration is often key to enjoying a trail run. 5. If possible, train on the trails and in the forest to get used to the ground underfoot.

6. Plan your nutrition carefully, and stick to it. You’ ll be on the trail for a few hours, and will need energy to keep going.
7. At the hydration stations, don’ t just charge past – fill up with water and enjoy the fruit.
8. If you’ re passing someone, be polite – karma moves fast in the mountains, so be lekker!
9. Always look good- there are cameras everywhere …
10. Compulsory gear is not optional!
BLUE NUMBERS IN THE TRAIL RUN
To date, eight athletes have earned a Blue Number in the TTOM Trail Run, with Landie Greyling and Kane Reilly having done so by winning the race three times, and the rest for finishing the race 10 times. Dominic Wills is the only athlete to have run the TTOM Trail Run every single year since the first race in 2010, and Norrie Williamson is the only athlete to have earned three Blue Numbers in the Trail Run as well as the Ultra and Half. Ahead of the 2026 race, only Ryan Winter stands to join this group, as he is on nine medals, while a further five athletes are currently on eight medals, and may be trying to get to 10 by 2027, including Afzal Dhansay, who would then become just the second athlete to earn three Blue Numbers.
