REFRESHMENT STATIONS

There will be seven well-stocked refreshment stations positioned along the route of the Half Marathon , and 17 refreshment stations on the Ultra Marathon route to ensure that your hydration needs are adequately catered for . Drinking water , Coke , and Powerade will be provided in 175ml paper cups , and take note that water will be in white cups , Coke will be in red Coca-Cola branded cups , Coke No Sugar in black and red Coca-Cola No Sugar cups , and Powerade in black and blue branded cups .
You should drink approximately 100ml of fluid when thirsty . It may therefore not be necessary to drink at every station , as the dangers of being over-hydrated can be as severe as that of dehydration . Modify your fluid intake to suit weather conditions on the day , and do not experiment with new drinks on race day .
Where possible , the stations will be manned from both sides of the road , but the stations are well spread out to ensure that everyone is catered for . Also , toilet facilities will be provided at every refreshment station , usually just past the station . Please use the toilets provided – do not use private gardens or public areas . The full list of Half Marathon and Ultra Marathon refreshment stations is on page 70 .

RESULTS

Provisional results will be available online on the Two Oceans Marathon website after the race at www . twooceansmarathon . org . za / race-results .

RUNNERS ’ RESCUE

A number of vehicles will be travelling continually along the route . They will be available to transport you to the finish should you retire from the race , and / or from the various cut-off points .

ROUTE

Please see page 65 for the Ultra Marathon route map , and page 66 for the Half Marathon route map . Contingency plans are in place to re-route either race in the event of a natural or other disaster , such as a fire on Chapman ’ s Peak , and we work closely with the relevant authorities to ensure a smooth emergency transition . A detailed operational plan is in place for extreme cases where the race needs to be abandoned .

ROAD CLOSURES

Road closures will take place on 15 and 16 April 2023 for the duration of the two races . Please plan for additional time on your route to compensate for traffic and to find parking . The full list of road closures and detours is on page 54 .

RUNNERS ’ VILLAGE

Unfortunately there will be no Runners ’ Village in 2023 . Nevertheless , we ’ d like to tell you about this initiative , which is sponsored by the Two Oceans Marathon .
The idea for the Runners ’ Village was born when it emerged that financial constraints prevented talented athletes from disadvantaged communities from participating in the world ’ s most beautiful marathon . It was created as a way to give underprivileged runners the opportunity to be a part of the race . An annual call for applications goes out several months before the race . Many running clubs apply on behalf of their members , and once here , the athletes ’ accommodation , meals and race day transport are all provided , leaving them to concentrate on their run .
