NEW FOR 2017!
REVIEW
In his debut review for Total Order Magazine, Senior
Photojournalist Tim Schumann, gives an update and
some history on the rock icon that is, Phil Anselmo.
Tim brings you backstage access to Superjoint.
During my tenure here in El Paso as a
Photojournalist, which now spans al-
most four years, I have started to pick
and choose the shows I cover. This is
simply because most of these national
acts I’ve shot before. So, with that be-
ing said, when it came to light that Su-
perjoint along with DevilDriver as the
supporting act, was coming here on
September 24th at Tricky Falls, I circled
the date with a big red marker. Oh yeah!
This one is a no brainer.
Of course, the draw to this event is Phil
Anselmo. Needless to say, he was the
front man for Pantera and is the front
man for the band, Down. In my opinion,

Phil is rock royalty. He is the same as
Vinnie Paul Abbott, whom I interviewed
back in 2015, while on tour with HELLY-
EAH.
On a personal note, back in 2013, I
worked security in a small club in Tampa,
Florida, when Damage Plan played. After
the show, I hung out in the dressing room
with Vinnie and Dime, had a couple of
beers with the brothers and Dime treated
me as if he had known me all my life. I did
tell this story to Vinnie after our interview
in 2015, and his response was, “That’s
the way my brother was.” One month af-
ter that show in Tampa, Dimebag Darrell
was dead. So, you can understand my ex-
citement over Phil coming to town. But, to
my dismay, he had his own bodyguard, so
approaching him was out. But, once they
found out who I was shooting for and who
approved my credentials, I was granted
a minute in the green room to meet Phil
and grab a couple of photos with him just
before he walked on stage. You could not
have asked for a more pleasant person.
He was a super cool guy.
Pre-sales weren’t that good, but El Paso
is a walk-up town. When it was all said
and done, the bottom floor was packed
and that’s an easy 800 in attendance. This
was also the second date on the tour, with
Austin being the first.
