Regarding your greatest hits album , were there any tracks that got left off that you really wanted on ?
LH : No . We actually put everything on there that we thought was appropriate . All the singles from the seven albums and a couple songs that are fan favorites such as , “ From Where You are ”, “ It Is What It Is ” and “ Everything ” were put on there .
Of all the tracks , were you surprised by any one of them that people really liked ? What was the fan favorite ?
LH : We have a couple songs that we added . For example , “ From Where You Are ”, which is a track for commercial against drunk driving and to bring awareness to it and people that have been lost . That song went viral online . It ’ s a great song . We didn ’ t expect that fans would gravitate towards that one as much as they have . That ’ s one example . But we ’ ve had a few songs along the way that gained traction online for one reason or another . “ It Is What It Is ” is another one and “ Everything ”.
Okay . In your past 17 years of making music , what do you think is your greatest music growth ?
LH : Good question . Probably out of the way planned projects . We got to do a song with James Newton Howard and kind of dabbled in some different styles . Actually each record is kind of different , you know ? Also , probably who we are is when we really came together . Brice joined the band , as far as playing on the album and being a part of that process . We feel like anything that ’ s when we grew the most . There ’ s been a bunch of different chapters as this band has progressed . Right now , especially having had the greatest hits come out , it ’ s kind of a pinnacle chapter for us . We ’ re just trying to stay present and enjoy the process .
What would you tell new fans ? How would you get them to listen to your music ?
LH : I would tell them to go back to the beginning and listen to the album , “ No Name Face ”. I feel like those songs are really relevant and I think they just kind of depict what kind of artist we are with our message and the lyrics . Connecting at a really deeper level , I would start there .
What is the one song that you like to play on stage ? Do you guys have a favorite that you all agree on ?
LH : It varies from chapter to chapter within the band . We ’ re one of those bands that never really get tired of playing our hits because we get the connection and the biggest reaction from our fans . For me , in particular , I like the song , “ Broken ”. I think it has deeper lyrical meaning to a lot of people and live it is real fun to play . Right now we are going with the greatest hits set list , but I have an acoustic moment that I have been switching the songs up , doing kind of medleys , to try and get as many songs in as possible .
