Tackling emotionally painful subject matter in their music is not something new from the hot band Thousand Below . “’ Gone to Me ’ is about navigating the painfully complicated scenario of having someone you used to be in love with — who once caused severe emotional damage to you — still try and remain in your life on positive terms ,” singer James Deberg shares about the song , which explores a deeply personal and entirely relatable situation that so many of us have endured . We sit down with James and talk about the industry , the state of live music , crafting new music and being just nerdy enough to make it cool .
The subject matter of this track is such a study in duality and you really reached in to what we all truly feel . Do you really think its possible to be happy for someone when you really want them to be happy with you ?
JAMES : It just depends . I know some people that can swallow that pill pretty easily , and then I was a little bit lucky in the way . I had some very in-person inspiration from that . That specific weekend , it was just one of those “ right city , right time ” type of things . There it was , “ Hey , let ’ s link up ,” and it just happened . Anyways , I was going to make a song about it . Let ’ s jump in on this . That was the story .

JAMES : I don ’ t know . I think it ’ s a different level of millennial , zoomer , like whatever .. Gen X , those people . It ’ s more normal to be super in touch with your emotions . It ’ s more like people are just not as embarrassed by what ( Continued on next page )
