Without getting into to
much politics, do you
think from a financial
standpoint. The game has
to restructure it’s model
to sustain it’s self and
prevent clubs going bust.
I do think there is a need to
seriously think about how football
can restructure it’s finance
and strangely enough for football,
this tragic period that we are all
going through with COVID19 could
be the time. All businesses have
seen and felt the impact of what
has happened. So this could be an
opportunity for everyone to take
stock.
Can you think of a player who in your opinion
never reached the heights you or people in the
game thought they would.
Well, I don’t want to name names, but like you, I have seen a
number of young players, who appear to have everything and for
some reason they don’t reach the heights everybody was
expecting. That’s not to say they did not play professionally or in
the premier league. Talent can only take you so far, you have got
to add dedication, professionalism and be prepared to work hard.
When I was a boy there were better players than me around and
some people may say I was lucky to make it. They are entitled to
their opinion and to an extent it is probably true but I would like
to think I made the most of the talent I had. I was dedicated and I
worked hard to get better. The combination of those three
qualities helped me throughout my playing career and now I
apply those qualities to my coaching career.
