This year, I am planning on creating a newsletter entitled the Vox Animi, showcasing some of the amazing spirit and service activities you are performing. If you would like to write an article, please contact me! Submissions can range from pictures of service and spirit to articles on what your club or state has been doing. Together, we can bring our passion for this organization to new heights.

Get JCL Online!
I hope that you all are having a wonderful, JCL-filled year! I am so grateful that my last state convention was not my last JCL convention— now, I am focusing all my energy on convention at Trinity! Since my last Vox, I have finished entering the events of convention into the improved Sched app, and I have communicated with state and local officers. The national officers are more than happy to be resources for every JCLer!
I know many of you have your state conventions coming up— bonam fortunam! I would like you to encourage your state and local webmasters to submit your websites to the Website Contest! I have already received several entries and am very impressed. Please take the opportunity to develop or create websites. In our era filled with Internet access, it is crucial for our JCL to have an online presence. If you need any help, please contact me at [email protected]. Details for the Website Contest are online. For those of you who have submitted already, please send updates on the latest edits each month to maximize the points you receive! "Fortune Favors the Bold"
I hope that everyone is having a wonderful school year thus far. It's been a blast serving as your parliamentarian! At Fall Planning Meeting, a couple of amendments for the Constitution and Handbook moved on to the next step in the process, so I am anxious to see if they will be presented at convention.
Besides working on amendments and continuing to brush up on my Robert's Rules of Order, I have been busy working with the state parliamentarians on recruiting candidates to run for national office. I have received several names of interested delegates, but there is always room for more. If you are interested in running for office, if you think your friend would be successful in one of the national positions, even if you're on the fence at this point, CONTACT ME! I'd be more than willing to help you channel your set of skills and passion for the JCL into something big. Running for office in itself is a rewarding experience, regardless of the outcome. Don't let yourself wonder "What if...," take advantage of this opportunity. Pictures, Pictures, Pictures!
I hope you all have had a wonderful school year so far and managed to stay warm this winter. Many thanks to all of the JCLers who have sent me pictures so far. Receiving pictures from historians both state and local with an abundance of captions has been so exciting. I cannot wait to see more pictures from across the nation from upcoming conventions this spring, other state and local events, and National Classics Week events.
When you do send pictures, remember to caption each one and indicate at what event the picture was taken. WHAT is going on in the picture, WHERE the event took place, WHEN the event took place, and WHO took the picture as well as who participated in the event are all great pieces of information to include in your captions. If you have so many pictures that emailing them to me at [email protected] is difficult, feel free to share Dropbox or Google Drive folders with me. The more pictures the merrier!
Again, it is a privilege to serve as your 2014-2015 NJCL Historian. I hope to represent this year of JCL thoroughly and I cannot wait to unveil the NJCL Scrapbook to you all!

Torch the Torch:U.S.!
Welcome to the first edition of the digital Torch:U.S.! The Torch:U.S. will still come in the mail, but in this issue, there are several elements that are exclusive to the online version. In this section, we are featuring the first ever Torch:U.S. podcast, in which the officers talk about convention and all the different ways you can participate in JCL. Listen to it here:
Although the Torch:U.S. isn't going completely online until Volume LXV, I am hoping to beta test some of the features of a digital publication in this issue. From audio recordings, to videos, to photo slideshows, this new medium will be more engaging and versatile. It also gives a chance for more JCLers to be featured. In this issue, we interviewed more than 15 students on video for the feature article on Roman emperors. Many thanks to Ruiqi He and Maya Nandakumar for helping me make this a coast-to-coast survey! This article is also accompanied by JCLers' convention submissions. Many thanks to Dan Sherman for submitting his poem and to Tashi Treadway, Lindsey Dierig, and Wyatt Joyner for submitting their pieces of artwork.
