South Carolina

"I am South Carolina's SCJCL president, Grace Rivers, bringing you some updates about our state.

We started off this year with community outreach in the form of Homecoming parades in the majority of chapters featuring Latin clubs around the state, such as Summerville and Dreher High Schools. Additionally, chapters participated in school fairs featuring chapters’ Latin programs throughout the state.

We continued this Fall by holding SCJCL Classics’ Day at Furman University. We even saw a 16.7% increase in attendees compared to last year! SCJCLers also had the opportunity to create cards with various holidays for senior homes. Dominic Empleo, our SCJCL first vice president, explained to chapters in attendance the steps for SCJCL's community service this year, which will focus on senior homes. Chapters such as Dreher High School's Latin Club have already been putting in the steps for their community service, such as a books and dvd drive, a fresh fruit drive, and a band/chorus for seniors in their local senior home.

Additionally, our South Carolina SCL leaders including Jameson Sheehy and Alden Okoh-Aduako joined us at Classics Day to outreach with high school seniors going into college who'd still like to be involved with the Classics even without taking Latin or moving states! Jameson Sheehy, a college student at Clemson, provided a detailed and interactive session involving all updates and information about SCL and how to get involved. I'm excited for them to also join us at our State Spring Forum and hold elections as well as outreach!

I'm also very happy to announce that we have gained one chapter within our State! Chapters within the SCJCL are now as follows: Brookland Cayce High School, Dreher High School, Summerville High School, Trinity Collegiate School, Porter Gaud Episcopal School, Holy Trinity Classical Christian School Gratias!"

"The WJCL is gearing up for our State Convention in January! Recently, our state officers hosted a meeting with local officers, where they discussed their positions, shared upcoming plans, and built connections across schools. We also collected toiletries and hygiene supplies for a homeless shelter. The WJCL is now looking forward to hosting a game night to continue fostering community and JCL spirit!"
