The phenomenon of post-convention depression is well-documented. To alleviate it, allow me to thank some of the many amazing people who made NJCL Convention possible.
To Indiana University and the consortium of midwest states that helped run convention — thank you for your smiles and indefatigable assistance.
To the outgoing NJCL Executive Board — thank you for the countless hours you have put into this organization. It is no small task to plan a convention of this scale. You did so with enthusiasm and grace. You have been dedicated. But even more importantly you have also, as the NJCL creed puts it, “inspired dedication” in others.
To the omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent SCL — That’s Entertainment was a true spectacle, and your help with Olympika, Ludi, and the Convention Ear was much appreciated, alongside your senses of humor and late-night lucidity. You were and are indispensable, truly.
To the NJCL Committee — thank you, too, for all of your hard work throughout the year that made this convention possible. And to all of sponsors and chaperones — thank you for taking a week out of your summers to accompany and support us at convention. With your encouragement and efforts year-round, you spark engagement and interest in countless students of the classics.
And, finally, to all of the delegates at this convention, to my “deer colleagues” — you made this week one of the best of my life. I know I am not alone in that sentiment, and I can only thank you for inspiring me and making me laugh. You are the reason I come back, year after year, and I miss you all already.
