Spring Planning Meeting
On April 19, Executive Board members met virtually through Zoom for their annual Spring Planning Meeting. Officers and committee members engaged in discussions about the upcoming NJCL convention in Indiana, as well as agendas carried over from the Fall Planning Meeting.
The group first reviewed guiding principals and meeting agreements for the meeting led by Committee Chair Mr. Todd Wegenhart. From there, Convention Advisor Ms. Liz Bouis provided updates for the 2026 National Convention, specifically talking about the format for the Silver Bowl presentations. Publicity and Membership Chair Ms. Krystal Kubichek then gave updates about Convention Domi. Following the discussion, NJCL Parliamentarian Kai Benton and Constitutional Advisor Mr. Brian Compton shared revisions to the amendments and an additional proposed amendment. The rest of the board shared their opinions and voted on these amendments.
After a brief break, Digital Contest Chair Mr. Zach Mair proposed a new calculation for the Lillie B. Hamilton Award, which is given to the highest achieving students in all categories at the NJCL convention. Academic Contests Chair Ms. Andrea Stehle presented a workshop called Language Advocacy Days 2026, which was held by the National Committee for Latin and Greek’s Joint National Committee for Languages. From there, a motion was passed to make Latin League an Official Program of the NJCL. Finally, Mr. Wegenhart spoke about convention pricing and the board brainstormed ideas for improving and reflecting on the NJCL convention. At the conclusion of the meeting, NJCL President Reesey Lai adjourned the meeting for officers, and committee members moved on to discuss the Phinney and Sterling Awards, both of which are presented to adults who have heavily contributed to NJCL conventions.
