"Roman pottery

conveys so many stories

about Roman history and/or

mythology with the pictures

drawn on the vessels. It is fun to

examine them and learn the story

they narrate, because it tells us so

much about the Romans. After all, a picture is worth a thousand words!"

Chandana Suru

"Roman temples

are one of the best examples

of the ingenuity of ancient peoples

when it comes to making things big

and pretty. Even today, walking through

Rome's forum makes you feel insignificant compared to the towering structures that truly seem like they were made to house the gods.

The large amounts of planning, the grand ampitheatres, the luxurious bath houses, and

the permanece of Roman architecture are a testament to the human spirit's greatest

passions, ever more so than any

individual, smaller art piece."

David Barrash

St. Thomas' Episcopal School

"Mosaics take

time to assemble and

create, as well as to collect

each individual stone that is perfect for the design. Many of them have also survived and

been preserved incredibly

well. We can still admire their artistry today."

Hana Conte

Summit Country Day

Ohio

"I really like the

cave canem mosaic.

It reminds me of one of my dogs"

Logan Ferris

"I cannot

imagine anything

harder than having to

hand cut every piece of

tiny tesserae that you would have to use to make a detailed mosaic."

Chloe Cookson

"The revival of

neoclassical architecture

in the 18th century shows

that the art forms created by the Romans and the Greeks were still considered models

of architecture."
