MEETING
The National Junior Classical League National Committee and Board gathered at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, from Sept. 18 to 22 for the annual Fall Planning Meeting.
NJCL President Lilia AitSahlia and Communications Coordinator Reesey Lai toured the Miami university campus along with committee members Todd Wegenhart, Jennifer Jordt, Liz Bouis, Bennett Henkel, and Sherwin Little. They were joined by Local Convention Co-Chairs Amy Elifrits and Emelie Inderhees; Maxine Mandt, NSCL Vice President; and Paula Green, Miami University Coordinator. The group then convened to discuss the schedule for the 2025 convention. The initial meeting’s core focus was editing and confirming locations and times of convention events.
The remaining board and committee members arrived from around the country on Sept. 19, and similarly toured the campus the following morning. In a meeting that afternoon, the group once more reviewed the planned convention schedule.
The next day, meetings began in the morning: after a series of introductions and a review of meeting protocol, attendees jumped right in. Wegenhart discussed Spring Planning Meeting, now held virtually due to expense concerns. Parliamentarian Isabella Ochoa and Constitutional Advisor Brian Compton then introduced a series of potential amendments. Two of the three potential constitutional amendments and both bylaw amendments moved forward. Attendees then discussed possible sources for fundraising.
The officers and the committee then broke into separate meetings. The officers focused on convention’s spirit, dances, service, and fundraising, and planned events for the NJCL throughout the year—game nights, Classicalia, and more.
The officers and committee will reconvene next digitially in 2025 at Spring Planning Meeting.
