State Updates

"Our 75th FJCL Forum was an eventful Forum with many past FJCL alumni coming back to this historical event. A lot of familiar faces were seen back in moderating certamen, supporting spirit, and helping out as chaperones. With the new board having been elected and appointed on the last day of the forum, a new and exciting chapter in the journey of the FJCL has begun. First, the FJCL Instagram pioneered new heights with new national preparation updates. Additionally, we opened the application for one of our most prestigious positions: the regional leader. Our first game night is scheduled to be on June 8th which is meant to bring the FJCL community together to connect and have fun before nationals. The Certamen board has officially started the initial aspects of training students for the NJCL convention. On the board front, we are excited to announce that we will be trying out new things in the coming months in order to supplement the major priorities of the FJCL. We have already created a membership committee, an accessibility committee, a Zoom event committee, and a Uvae Vitis/Arts committee. These committees are working diligently to prioritize and progress in their respective fields. The FJCL is at hard work as we begin to coordinate our initial plans for the NJCL convention at Knoxville."

"Salvete from the summer-ready CAJCL! It’s been a busy past few months for all of us, but the CAJCL is thriving! California worked incredibly hard to get ready for the State Convention on April 12 and 13. Organized and hosted by the Menlo School, 37 schools attended, bringing 808 students and 186 adults! Though faced with cloudy skies and drizzly weather, we powered through, hosting events both classic (hah) and new. Students battled it out on the elds, in the pool, or with their buzzers, before coming together to sing a surprisingly-tuneful JCL song. They stayed up late at night, star gazing, and woke up early to shout themselves hoarse at spirit. We learned, too — about biology, ancient coins, or classical swears — and had the chance to meet with method reenactors who gave us insight into daily life in the Roman Empire. It was great to round out the day by giving back to the community with our service project. As usual, we came away exhausted, inspired, and excited to see everyone at Nationals in July!"
