There was a fury among JCLers, sponsors, and chaperones, all outside of the Woodruff PE Center as everyone was waiting for the clock to strike 8 p.m. Why? For the doors of That’s Entertainment! to open. When the sliding doors were unlocked, so-called Latin nerds alike rushed down the hallways as quickly as they could without running hoping for the best seats possible for a night of funny skits by the SCL, waving of phone flashlights to ballads, and best of all, “Let’s go stage crew” chants.
It was a night of canon events, as Shandi Burrow from Alabama, Joly Lo from Kentucky, and Raees Kamboj from Nevada hosted That’s Entertainment! as Gwen Stacey Spiderman, Miguel O’Hara Spiderman, and Miles Morales Spiderman, respectively.
Vanilla Oreo, with band members Ross Noland, Haejoon Oh, and Matthew Wang from Georgia, opened the night up with a rendition of d4vd’s “Here with Me”. Hongkang Zhao from California wowed the crowd with his piano skills, performing Prelude #1 from Holberg Greig Suite by Edvard Grieg.
Next was the first skit of the night as the SCL took to the stage with certamen workers on strike, before Wisconsin’s Owen Gudex serenaded the crowd with “My Way” by Frank Sinatra. Then, JCLers made the cross-country trip from Los Angeles when Chris Briones, Erin Eger, and Erin Svetlik from Texas sang “Man or Muppet”, back to the host state in Atlanta for a performance of “Georgia On My Mind” by Ray Charles on the piano by Georgia’s Zhikai Huang.
The hosts returned to the stage finding a Certamen machine, spooked out by the message written under it they quickly away. Hans Law of Texas followed, binging a That's Entertainment! first by spinning the Wheel of Sovereignty to decide which instrument he should play. The options were violin, piano, or bagpipes, and when the wheel was spun, JCLers across the nation wanted only one thing: bagpipes. Luckily, the wheel chose what the audience wanted and thus Hans played the bagpipes.
Myth America, the newest beauty pageant of the SCL aired on the screens of WoodPEC for the first time. The crowd was on their feet as the winner, the Reverse Centaur, was named. After, Icarus, the duo of Haley Bingham and Kara Schwantz from Florida, dazzled the crowd with a lightsaber dance.
In a continuation of their National Classics Week video, the MeanRomans returned! In a talent show, which Monet, the Principal, hosted, Nolan sang “Beautiful” by Christina Aguilera, Joe G rapped about his 4-part platform, and the Plasticae returned for the third year in a row dancing to Jingle Bell Rock. All seven officers also showcased their kazoo skills! Transported to Barbieland, the SCL showed off the different Barbies of the NJCL offices with the National Committee making an appearance.
