The two state events that New Jersey has held since nationals have been the virtual game night and virtual fall community service events. During our game night, we played various fun games with a Halloween theme. This included an interactive game of Skribbl.io centered around Halloween objects such as bats, pumpkins, mummies, etc. In addition, there was latin Halloween trivia and Geoguesser, which is a game about guessing the location depicted on the image portrayed. Moreover, the most recent events were the fall community service events. This included school supply donations to the Salvation Army and creating homemade dog and cat toys for animal shelters. For the school donation event, numerous supplies such as, backpacks, pencils, erasers, pencil boxes, pens, colored pencils, highlighters, rules, scissors, glowsticks, notebooks, folders, crayons, and markers were donated to the nearest Salvation Army location. Furthermore, we all had fun making our cat and dog toys. Led by Proconsul of the NJ State board, these simple yet effective toys will later be donated to shelters in need benefiting many dogs and cats.

Here’s what the OJCL has been working on since nationals! We had our Fall Forum Convention on October 9, 2021, and we were able to organize a hybrid of in-person and virtual pods in each of the regions of Ohio. In addition to this, the Fall Torch for the OJCL has been published. Each officer will soon be starting their articles and projects for the Winter Torch.

Tennessee has already kicked off the school year with some fun activities. We hosted a charity stream on November 6 to raise money for Extra Life, a program that raises money for children’s hospitals across the United States and Canada through gaming, and it was very fun!
Our historian and Brentwood High also put together a JCL activities manual packed full of service project ideas and other activities for chapters across the country to try out. It is open for submissions with THIS LINK. And, it can be accessed HERE if your chapter happens to come up with some fun Latin related games, please don’t hesitate to submit!
Lastly, schools in West Tennessee hosted their annual Veterani Dinner. Latin IV and V students were given the opportunity to hear from a professor from University of Memphis who discussed how food was transported across Rome and its many effects on the empire.
