STATE UPDATES

ARIZONA

by Alexander Beer

Since national convention, Arizona JCL has been extremely busy continuing the JCLove. In August, we had our annual “Salvete” event, an introduction back into the JCL for the new school year. Although we are still online, AZJCL is dedicated to making the JCL experience the best for all members. In September, we had an officer-planned event. October was our first normal Certamen event and ran very smoothly. In this upcoming month of November, we are hosting an interstate Fall Forum event with plenty of games, tests, and plenty of fun. Our new board of officers is dedicated, hardworking, and wants to make JCL as fun and educational as possible. Overall this year, even just the start of it shows great promise and excitement for the future of AZJCL.

The Georgia Junior Classical League has been busy since national convention! I'm happy to report that the GJCL successfully hosted Praetoria and Fall Forum virtually. Although we would have loved to see our JCLers in person, we were grateful to spend some time together over our virtual programming. We hosted workshops, academic contests, and socials for all classics students to participate in — free of charge.

Additionally, our First Vice President, Grace Shen, has continued to lead meetings for the Membership Advisory Committee (MAC). MAC is a group of JCLers from across the state that meets twice a month to discuss ideas to increase membership and participation in both local and state events. These meetings also provide a space for GJCLers to support each other and grow their leadership skills.

As the GJCL Editor, I published the summer issue of the Alae Mercurii, the GJCL state publication, in late August, and it covered national convention, new officer introductions and features, and contest winners, among many more fun things! (It is HERE for anyone who didn’t get to read it already!) I plan on releasing the fall issue at the end of November, and plan on covering Praetoria, Fall Forum, and much more!

Thank you to our officers who are working hard to provide our members with a great JCL experience!
