2020 AS A MYTHOLOGICAL CHARACTER IS...2020 AS A MYTHOLOGICAL CHARACTER IS...2020 AS A MYTHOLOGICAL CHARACTER IS...

DANIEL: ...the Chimera. It is intimidating but not invincible.

RAEES: ...Apollo. Just as Apollo is a healer god, the world can heal from COVID.

LYNDIE: ...Eris, the Greek goddess of chaos, discord, and strife

ANNIE: ...Polyphemus. His mental state is all over the place similar to the state of everything in 2020.

NOLAN: ...the Hydra. Every time we fix one thing, another problem arises. But just like Hercules, we can still overcome it.

VIVIAN: ...the Hydra. When you cut off one head, two more come out, like the COVID second wave.

IRENE: ...the Chimera. It is a confusing hybrid of catastrophes, especially dangerous when put together.

Salvete, amici! As a tried and true proverb says, time flies when you’re having fun. I am astounded at how quickly time has passed since I became your NJCL Editor! Nevertheless, I am proud to say that I’ve had a blast with my fellow officers during these past few months, and I’ve made the most of my term so far. Some highlights include the publication of the fall Torch and setting up a website called JCL Bookshelf, a home for state and local publications that I hope will help unify editors around the country. I reached out to state and local editors to assess the status of their publications and to offer assistance. If your state or local club has a publication that you would like to include, I highly encourage you to submit it! The website is by no means selective, so any and all publications are welcome. I have also participated in the new JCLive show, attended Fall Planning Meeting, and, most recently, published the Winter Torch.

I anxiously await the time when it is safe to finally see you all in person again. In the meantime, though, be smart, wear a mask, and drop me a line anytime at [email protected]!

Ab imo pectore,

Irene Calderon

2020-2021 NJCL Editor
