The VJCL had an active spring! Early in the season, the executive board visited University of Richmond to prepare for NJCL in 2020. We hosted several Certamina, one of which doubled as the site of a VJCL-sponsored book drive to support education. The Certamen season culminated in the VSCL state finals tournament, where, in addition to the promised intellectual competition, the officers held a friendly bake-sale-off, selling homemade sweets to raise money for charity (whoever used their ovens and charisma most wisely got to select the cause).

National Classics Week saw the official proclamation of "Virginia Classics Week" by the governor. Those seven days were packed with students attending school in togae, various classics-themed baking competitions, and at least three separate reenactments of the assassination of Julius Caesar.

Our eyes are now set on summer, and we're excited to get ready for NJCL and to enjoy our time there.

Salvete, omnes!

As summer quickly approaches, the WJCL has continued to stay active in the last few months. Many of our school chapters participated in National Classics Week celebrations this past April. Among the schools, fun activities were shared between the WJCLers, including fun photo contests, delicious food, and more. Speaking of food, the WJCL has been running a food drive for impoverished kids through a wonderful organization called the Hope House. The Hope House provides food to kids in the greater Milwaukee area who may not be able to have access to it otherwise, and we are overjoyed to be able to work with them. In other news, the WJCL has been begun planning for the summer. We hope to be able to host a Latin Day full of fun activities for our delegates this June to keep them active with Latin and the JCL during the summer months. We are also, of course, preparing to travel to Fargo, North Dakota this summer for this year’s NJCL convention. With studying, costume making, Ludi training our delegates have a busy summer ahead of them. We look forward to seeing you all shortly at Nationals and the WJCL wishes you all a lovely summer!
