A WORD FROM

A WORD FROM

MARSHALL THE LOBSTER

Hi, everyone! My name is Marshall, and I'm basically the mascot for Maine. For this year's spirit competition, we thought having a human-sized lobster in the group would help us stand out. It sure did! We chose a lobster in particular because the Maine coast is filled with lobsters, and we like to think that Maine's lobsters are something that help Maine seem particularly unique, because not many other states have lobsters as big or delicious as us.

During which national convention did you make your debut?

I made my debut at the 2018 nationals in Ohio, and it was awesome. Every day, I met more and more people and everyone seemed to love it. My appearances during the evenings at the dances and such were a hit, and help spread the word that there's a friendly lobster from Maine roaming around campus.

What was your favorite part of convention?

My favorite part of the convention was definitely spirit. I'm a local 2nd VP and hopefully I'll be running for MEJCL 2nd VP this spring. I'm a huge spirit guy, so it was extra fun to be able to be a mascot and help MEJCL win 1st in small state spirit.

Everyone saw you working hard to hype up students. What was the most difficult part about being such a huge sensation?

The most difficult part about being a sensation this past summer was probably the heat. It was pretty hot throughout the week, so whenever I was getting my spirit on, I would be on the verge of a heat stroke.

Will you be at next year's convention?!

Of course! Nationals was one of the best experiences I've ever had, so I'm saving up to make an appearance in Fargo! I'm more than excited to represent Maine in Nationals 2019, it will be a blast! Never be afraid to come say "Hi," I love meeting new friends!
