Tennessee JCL has begun preparing for state convention. With regional contests all around, the competitive atmosphere is beginning to fill the air. In Middle Tennessee, the midstate competition took place on February 20th. The TJCL board hosted a service project in which students wrote letters to Greece for the purpose of promoting the study of Latin in schools. The board also hosted a toiletry drive for a shelter that aids women experiencing domestic violence. With these projects at hand, the Tennessee Junior Classical League expects great things to come.

Over the holidays, Oak Hall School, Lincoln High School, and Satellite High School hosted region-wide Saturnaliae. FJCLers celebrated this holiday through feasting on tasty treats, playing games, and various service projects—toy drives, writing letters to soldiers, and making holiday bookmarks. It was a great way to unwind before the new year, as everything sped up with the arrival of 2019: Florida-Georgia Certamen quickly approached with St. John’s Episcopal Parish Day School, Stanton College Preparatory, and Saint Stephen’s Episcopal School taking home the gold in novice, intermediate, and advanced levels, respectively.

Thereafter, students in each region reunited for their Regional Forum, putting their knowledge and projects to the test. Each forum featured the service project of making bookmarks. These were distributed to local libraries, elementary schools, and nursing homes throughout the state.

JCLove was floating through the air during the Regionals season. Chapters across the state rejoiced in the Valentine’s Day spirit by making PB&JCLove sandwiches for homeless shelters and soup kitchens across the state. Other chapters made Valentine’s Day cards for troops overseas and others read love story myths to Florida’s youth.
