NJCL EDITOR

ANIKA PARK

TWO OFFICERS AT A TIME

My term has been very enjoyable and enriching! Throughout my term, I've been receiving submissions for the local and state publication contests, and most importantly, working on issues of Torch: U.S. I've spent the last few months working on the spring issue which is the third one I'm releasing during my term. I have the opportunity to meet and interact with so many different JCL members during this process, which I think is the best part. In early February, I attended the Spring Planning Meeting in Arlington, Virginia where I worked with the NJCL Committee and Officers to plan national convention and National Classics Week.

How is your term so far? What have you been doing in the past few months?

What's your favorite part about being editor?

I truly enjoy creating and compiling content for the Torch: U.S. If some people achieve a sense of fulfillment or peace of mind while knitting, I find these things in publication-making! The whole process is like a journey for me that requires so many individual missions and challenges. I have to interact with many different people, plan my design and overall layout, write my own articles, and more. But I enjoy doing all these things and watching my publications slowly come together piece by piece.

Is being a national officer what you expected?

What's your main goal as editor?

I came into this position, expecting to feel a lot of pressure and stress throughout my term because the audience for my publications and announcements was on a completely new scale. Unlike my initial expectations, I've actually struggled with none of this. In fact, I feel even more supported and encouraged by so many JCL students around the country. Rather than fearing mistakes, I now feel motivated to try new things in the issues of the Torch: U.S. and experiment with new designs and content!

My main goal as an editor is to connect students around the country with my publications. Besides the students that attend National Convention every year, majority of students in the JCL don't ever meet their peers who live in different regions. I hope that these students can learn about each other and the activities of other JCL chapters through my publications.
