2017-2018 NJCL EDITOR

The JCL elections for the 2017-2018 year were ones for the books. With 12 candidates prefiled, the electorate was in for an array of talent, experience, and new ideas. However, before any campaigning could begin, candidates first must have been nominated at the aptly named Nominations Committee.

For the office of editor, three candidates were prefiled: Margot Armbruster (WI), Zahra Hasanain (CA), and Jade Woods (LA). Since only two delegates may be nominated for a position, Armbruster and Woods were nominated after a vote.

For the position of historian, only one candidate, Lara Wyatt (SC) had prefiled, so the floor opened to nominations. Two other candidates were proposed: Shandi Burrows (AL) and Leah Guzcak (CO). Burrows received the open nomination. Similarly, only one candidate, Angela Kubicke (VT), had prefiled for the office of president, so the floor opened to other nominations. Of the two proposed candidates, Sayeed Akhtar (VA) and Tom Stevenson (KY), Akhtar received the other nomination for president. For communications coordinator, Lynn Ahrens (OH) was the only candidate to prefile. There were no nominations from the floor, so Ahrens became the only candidate for communications coordinator.

For the offices of first vice president, second vice president, and parliamentarian, two candidates prefiled for each office and no floor nominations were accepted. The candidates for first vice president were Timothy Han (NH) and Briti Nandi (GA); the candidates for second vice president were Collin Kane (FL) and Rachel Bisson (MA); and the candidates for parliamentarian were Sarah Lee (TN) and Johnny Rabe (IL).
