a dance move popularized by Cam Newton, the dab. Needless to say by the end of that performance the whole auditorium was on their feet. The National Board came out strong as well. In one of the skits about Pokemon Go, each officer proclaimed what team they were on and dueled in a lip sync battle, where they asked “How far will you go for a Pokemon?” One team showed that there wasn’t “no mountain high enough” for them to catch them all. First vice president Michael Kearny channeled his inner Marvin Gaye along with president Brier Clough and historian Hannah Barrett, who brought out their own Tammi Terrell. After their emotional performance, the other team, Team Mystic, which featured second vice president Hanna Seariac, communications coordinator Jon Nozik, editor Woojin Lee, and parliamentarian Amanda Hansen, inspired the audience with their rendition of Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger.” While the audience was struggling to pick sides, the officers reminded us of this year’s convention theme: unity. Finally, all joined together to sing the Pokemon theme. Just like every year, the SCL provided us with the hilarious content that we usually expect from late night comedy or our favorite sitcom. We saw the revival of Parks and Recreations and a plethora of Pokemon jokes.
We all knew the night was coming to a close when The Racketeers took the stage. After their mystifying performance, it was time for the long awaited awards. However, before the places were announced the audience demanded one last song: “Brown Squirrel”. After we all shook our bushy tails, the winners were announced. In third place was Asa Ruiz (TN), second place was Katherine Barbano (VA), and first place went to Hibah Hassan (MN) for her beautiful rendition of “My Immortal” by Evanescence. Thank you to everyone who prepared acts, stage crew, and all the organizers of That’s Entertainment this year.
