STATE UPDATES

The VJCL has been hard at work preparing for our winter convention. Much of the fun of our state convention is due to ideas and follow-up from our officers, so we've spent a lot of time planning coin wars, creating new events, and recruiting discamus speakers. We haven't been working the whole time, though, like at our kickoff Certamen tournament, where teams from all around Virginia competed to start the season strong! Also at Kickoff Certamen was a toy drive for a local children's hospital. Although we haven't announced our service project yet, we're excited to keep up this generous spirit at our state convention. The officers were active on social media throughout both days, so we hoped you watched our Instagram @OfficialVJCL November 24-25!

Salvete amici! As the snow has begun to fall here in Wisconsin, the WJCL board has begun to plan for state convention at the end of January. Registration has begun and as always there is much excitement around the planned theme days, events, and competitions to come. The WJCL may also have the new edition of That’s Entertainment at this year’s state convention, which has sparked much excitement from our members. The board is also planning the yearly officer auction, where this year’s officers are auctioned off for punishment such as pie-ing, makeovers, and more, with all the proceeds going to that year’s service cause.

In other news, Wisconsin recently sent several Certamen teams to Yale, with Brookfield Academy receiving first and second place in novice and advanced respectively. The intermediate team from Brookfield Academy and the Advanced team with players from Marquette High School and Homestead High School also made it to semifinals. We are all very proud of our Certamen players and look forward to seeing them compete at state convention.

We loved having the opportunity to see all of you at Nationals and the WJCL wishes all of you a very happy holiday season.
