Over the past couple of months, many have seen the cancellation of school, spring break, and state conventions. While cooped up inside of homes, hobbies, often overlooked in the busy days of 2019, fill the hours. You yourself may have reread one of your favorite childhood book series, picked up a long-abandoned paint set, or even baked a loaf of sourdough bread.

While you may be dusting off your knowledge of yeast and starter, you may have read of Seamus Blackley, the Egyptologist who dusted off, or rather rehydrated, 4,500 year old yeast and baked a loaf of bread. Blackley created his loaf through ancient Egyptian bread-baking techniques, but how did the Romans bake and buy their bread?
