DINNER CHAIRMAN
MR.
Avi
WEINSTOCK
Tonight’s Dinner Chairman, Mr. Avi Weinstock, is a shining example of a
Ben Torah who successfully balances family, chinuch, learning, community
involvement and a professional career.
Growing up in Toronto, Avi attended Ner Yisroel high school, and continued
on to Yeshiva Ateres Yisroel in Yerushalayim; the kesher he forged there
with the Rosh Yeshiva, Rav Boruch Mordechai Ezrachi, shlita, remains strong
to this day. He then learned under Rav Simcha Sheps, zt”l, in Torah Vodaath.
After spending time in its Kollel, he began a distinguished career as a partner
at Meridian Capital Group.
Avi is well-known for his involvement in chessed and community. Never
satisfied with contributing funds alone, Avi commits his precious time and
efforts to many worthy causes. He serves on the Board of Directors of
Yeshiva Darchei Torah, and is the President of CAHAL, a special education
program in the Five Towns.
Avi is quick to point to his illustrious forbearers as the role models and
inspiration for his passion for supporting Torah education. His grandfather,
Dr. Julius Kuhl, a”h, of Toronto, was a prominent philanthropist who founded
and supported many yeshivos and chinuch institutions. His father, Reb Yisroel
Weinstock, a”h – who established Yeshiva Darchei Torah of Toronto (led by
Rabbi Breitowitz) – and his mother, tb”l, Mrs. Janine Weinstock, were always
involved in the world of chinuch and its improvement.
Avi and his wife Elia are founders and mispallelim at Bais Medrash Heichal
Dovid of Lawrence, led by Rav Mordechai Stern, and are involved in many
other aspects of chessed that are carried out in a quiet, low-key manner.
It is a great privilege to have Mr. Avi Weinstock serve as Torah Umesorah’s
Seventy-Second Annual Dinner Chairman.
