Heat pipe function/ Heat pipe design: A heat pipe is secured under vacuum with a little, prescribed amount of working water. During non-operation, the working fluid is included inside the wick structure that lines the inside diameter of the heat pipe. When a heat source, an electronic component, generates heat for input, the fluid inside the heat pipe vaporizes which is known as the evaporator section/bottom end. The fluid vapor immediately spreads to the other end (condenser) of the heat pipe, using the pressure generated by the minimal temperature difference. At the opposite end, known as the condenser section, the working fluid/water gives up its latent heat, which is rejected or given to an external heat sink. The fluid then again returns to liquid form, and the wick structure inside the heat pipe passively pumps the fluid/water back to the evaporator section using capillary force. By using this liquid and vapor phases, the heat transport mechanism is extremely fluent and efficient. Because of it’s a closed loop design, heat pipes functions continuously and passively, creating a very reliable part in your thermal management system.
