NEW SALEM WITH DAVE

Creator/EP/HW Dave is one busy man. Juggling his everyday life and 5 different soaps must be a challenge. So that's why this interview is especially special because we were able to sit Dave down long enough to give us a fun interview about his hit soap "New Salem".

How about you start with telling us more about Dave?

I started watching the final year of Another World when I was younger and got hooked to soaps immediately. After I started with As The Worlds Turns, DOOL, Young and the Restless, General Hospital, One Life to Live, All My Children, and some Bold and Beautiful mixed in.

Tell us about your history with DOOL. What made you want to write your own version of a current soap?

I started watching DOOL during the JER years, then there was the train-wreck years of Dena Higley that I regretted watching but it got much better when Tomlin, Whitesell, and Broderick became head writers. I followed the show and its stories to get ideas of my own to write into my show, New Salem.

Ever since New Salem premiered, the show has been on fire, creatively and ratings wise. What do you think is the secret behind the success?

The secret to the success of New Salem to me is that I promote it on Twitter and allow my followers to view the product. As for creatively, I attribute that to watching many soaps on a daily basis *laughs*

The shows storylines have a gotten a little darker now were a few months in. Currently, you have the fallout from Melanie's gruesome kidnapping, Vargas was murdered, Will was attacked, Angel of Death serial killer, Jack's rape reveal on top of Jennifer being raped for a second time! Why so much dark and gloom at the same time?

Honestly, I guess i'm more accustomed to write doom and gloom stories because I like darker ideas. I've never been great at romance ones but I can always get better as a writer and improve that.

Is there anything you can or like to share going in 2014?

Anything for 2014? Let me see.... The Angel of Death story wraps up in early Dec, Nick Fallon goes on trial but the end result is unexpected, EJ gives Sami a Christmas miracle and she's set free, and someone dies. Expect 5 HUGE returns from core families that'll strengthen the younger demographic on the canvas.

In closing, do you have any final words?

Keep tuning into New Salem everyone because 2014 will be an exciting and very soapy year.

Tune in to New Salem, Weekdays on TopTv!
