Ladyboy has long been a wide-
spread phenomenon in Thai-
land, and few people are
shocked by it. In fact, the Ca-
lypso performers do not aim to
shock — their mission is to de-
stroy stereotypes, presenting to
the public ‘a show of talented
individuals who are neither men
nor women’, and ‘a performance
for people of all ages and na-
tionalities who love people.’
The program is composed
with great skill and imagination.
It consists of sixteen different
scenes and opens with a clas-
sical dance in traditional cab-
aret costumes with feathered
headdresses, followed by trib-
utes dedicated to Elvis Presley
and Rihanna, a Korean ballad
dance that recounts a broken
heart and newfound love, a mar-
tial-art style Chinese dance, an
Indian show, a modern Japanese
geisha dance, a jazz piece, a rev-
erie on the theme of Hava Nag-
ila, and much more. Along with
with the cabaret, there is a clas-
sic Thai dance show to enjoy ev-
ery night. Dinner is also offered
to visitors. Choose from a tra-
ditional Thai set meal, includ-
ing tom yam soup, spring rolls
and satay from pork or chicken
with jasmine rice, or a vegetari-
an menu.
