Exploring the city

Munich

It makes sense to start exploration of Munich at Munich City Museum , which relates the history of the city in a way that is accessible to all , in a modern , colloquial language , in contrast to other similar local history museums . The museum is housed in four late Gothic buildings which are former stables , the oldest of which dates back to the year 1500 . The museum holds several permanent exhibitions containing collections of musical instruments , photographs , hand puppets , film archives , as well as an exhibition dedicated to the onset of Nazism ( sadly to say , Munich was the cradle of this monstrous ideology ). In addition , two interesting temporary exhibitions are now open in the museum : until January 1 , 2022 , you can view the drawings of the famous Russian traveler and engraver Emelyan Korneev ( Grand Tour XXL ), and until May 1 , 2022 , you can learn more about club culture of the city ( Here Comes the Night ).
Bavaria offers both versatile and distinct leisure opportunities for winter vacationers : the magic of a big city infused with a rich history and culture is complemented by alpine slopes and the relaxing atmosphere of the nearby lakes . So much can be seen here on a long weekend — you can combine trips to the finest museums and opera houses in Europe with enjoying exquisite gastronomic pleasures , relax at a spa , or take to the slopes . This is a place where it is not hard to find your own corner and fully kick back , avoiding the crowds of more glitzy locations . Our columnist in Top Flight has prepared the best travel route for you .
