TEQUILA

The town of Tequila makes for the perfect ending to your tour of Jalisco . As you have probably already guessed , this is indeed where Mexico ’ s most famous drink originated . The blue agave plant used to make tequila is omnipresent here , and the taps flowing with intoxicating fun never cease to flow ! Graffiti depicting mustachios in sombreros harvesting the crops can be found on the multi-coloured facades of the compact colonial houses , while eye-catching buses shaped like chilli peppers whisk tourists around the Tequila distilleries where they can see the production process for themselves and , of course , sample the famous drink . Don ’ t miss the National Tequila Museum , where you can learn about the history of the drink . It houses a fabulous collection of designer and limited-edition bottles of tequila , including some rare and beautiful examples .
There is plenty of fine food to munch on as you down your shots of tequila in Jalisco , as the state is renowned for its cuisine . Make sure to try , for example , сueitos de cerdo — slices of roasted or braised pork skin served with a variety of delicious dressings . It is said that there are more than a hundred recipes of this dish ! Tortas augadas , meaning literally „ drowned sandwich ”, is another popular local dish . It is made from a crusty bread roll filled with a delightful combination of braised beef and juicy dressing . And if you overdid it on the tequila and are paying the consequences , don ’ t miss the thick birria soup — goat stew in a chilli pepper sauce with bay leaf and thyme , cooked over a low heat . And your negative emotions will be right away replaced by delight !
