Rongbuk Monastery:
Rongbuk Monastery, It is one of the highest temples in the world. It has an
altitude of about 5150m, situated on the north side of Mount Everest. The
Rongbuk Monastery is lies at the northern foot of Mt. Everest at height of 5000 m
(16, 404.2 ft.) from a sea level.

The monastery was built by a Nyingmapa Lama in 1902. The area of Rongbuk
Monastery was used by monks and hermits for meditation for over 400 years. It is
the highest monastery in the world because it is 5000 m above from sea level.
It is a monastery of the Nyingma sect of Buddhism. Rongbuk Monastery now
houses for about thirty monks and nuns, but in the ancient time it was house for
500 monks. Hermitage meditation caves dot the cliffs around the monastery &
many stones carved with prayers and sacred symbols line the paths to them.
