Alpesh Patel
Founding Principal - Praefinium Partners
Alpesh Patel is the Founding Partner at Praefinium Partners, a top tier Private Equity fund
investing in cleantech and medtech globally with an India bias. The firm was founded in 2004
and is a catalyst for innovation with investments in spinal implants and knee replacement
technology. Alpesh is a barrister who holds a Bachelor’s degree in PPE from the University
of Oxford, and an LLM from King’s College, London. He is a FinTech Entrepreneur publishing
Sharescope Investment Software; a Co-Founder of InvestingBetter.com - a platform which
provides know-how expertise, investor education and information to the private investor and is the author and co-author of of 18 investment and business books. He rose to fame in
1999, writing the ‘Diary of an Internet Trader’ publishing over 200 columns for the Financial
Times newspaper. A former Visiting Fellow in Business & Industry at Oxford University and
Council Member of Chatham House, he is also currently a Board Member of 10 Downing
Street Entrepreneurship Advisory Group; Senior Dealmaker for the UKTI Global Entrepreneur
Programme; Founding Director of the UK India Business Council and Deputy Chairman of the
Commonwealth Gates Council.
Sarika Patel
Partner - Zeus Caps
Sarika is a Partner at Zeus Caps, a principal finance platform focused on infrastructure investing
in emerging markets, where she is responsible for deal origination and operating oversight
of portfolio companies and investor relations. Zeus has been involved in over $800 million
of transactions including the biggest PE infrastructure deal in India. Sarika has acquired her
depth of experience through her career progression from starting her professional career at
Price Waterhouse, early coalface roles in private enterprise and increasingly senior positions in
the public sector culminating in being Director of Innovation at London Development Agency
managing an annual investment budget of £50 mn. From there she moved into the ‘advisory’
business as National Head of Technology at Grant Thornton initially in the Government and
Infrastructure Advisory practise and later leading the technology M&A Practice where she was
responsible for mandate wins on both buy and sell sides in a cross border deal environment.
She is a Chartered Accountant, a Chartered Marketer, has a law degree and a post graduate
diploma in Managing E Business.
Pathik Pathak
Faculty Director of Social Enterprise - University of
Southampton
Pathik Pathak joined the University of Southampton in October 2010 as Lecturer in Sociology.
In January 2012, he became the Director for Undergraduate Programmes. He is also currently
Faculty Director of Social Enterprise and Director of The University Social Entrepreneurship
Programme. Pathik previously studied at Southampton as an undergraduate and completed
his MA and PhD at the University of Warwick. His doctoral thesis was successfully translated
into his first monograph, The Future of Multicultural Britain: Confronting the Progressive
Dilemma (Edinburgh University Press, 2008). Between then and re-joining the department,
he started and directed social enterprises in Mumbai and London. Pathik’s current research is
concerned with urban transformations and social innovation, with a methodological interest
in co-production and action research, an empirical focus on cities in the global South, and nonrepresentational theory. He also directs the University’s Social Innovation Challenge Series and
our International Social Innovation Challenges.
