Top 100 Asian Stars in UK Tech 2015 Dame Zarine Kharas Founder & CEO at JustGiving Zarine Kharas is the founder and chief executive of fundraising website JustGiving, which launched in February 2001 and is credited with transforming online fundraising, enabling charities and individuals to easily raise sponsorship money over the internet. By the end of 2008, users of JustGiving had raised £527m for 8,100 charities, and a US version has also been launched. A University of Cambridge BA (Hons), Law graduate, she previously worked in investment banking, and then launched the MC Securities’ operations in Warsaw, where she was responsible for strategy and operations. She was made Dame Commander for services to business and charity in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2015. Shalini Khemka Founder & CEO - E2Exchange Shalini founded E2Exchange in 2011. Its mission is to create the UK’s leading organisation supporting entrepreneurs and helping them accelerate the growth of their businesses in a nurturing and dynamic environment. Shalini was an Investment Direct or at LDC the private equity arm of Lloyds Banking Group and led LDC’s off-market origination network. Shalini joined LDC from Lloyds Banking Group where she ran the Group’s ‘plain vanilla’ International Trade Finance business whilst chairing the Lloyds TSB’s Emerging Leaders programme. Prior to working for Lloyds TSB, Shalini along with three former Managing Directors of Deutsche Bank, set up the world’s first online ‘bank to bank’ trade finance company. She was a management accountant at Deutsche Bank and has worked in various finance related roles for Bankers Trust International Bank, Natwest Bank and Coopers & Lybrand. Shalini is also a Director on the Development Board of The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, a Mentor for IBM Smartcamp and a Champion for Tech London Advocates. Anand Krishnan - General Manager, Developer & App Platform, Microsoft As General Manager Developer and App Platforms for Microsoft, Anand Krishnan leads a UKbased team on sales of platform products (Azure, Developer Tools & MSDN), app acquisition for Microsoft’s mobile and tablet platforms as well as the Microsoft Ventures Accelerator and BizSpark programs for startups. Anand joined the Microsoft UK subsidiary in June 2012. Prior to this appointment, he spent two years as the Global Lead & Director for Microsoft’s Cloud Business, based in Paris responsible for launching & driving Office365 & Azure share and revenues across 100+ subsidiaries worldwide. Anand has spent most of his career in early-stage businesses. He previously served as Western Europe Area lead for Microsoft’s web-platform business. Prior to that, he was at Microsoft’s HQ in Redmond and launched Microsoft’s first product in the Technical Computing space. He came to Microsoft after 8 years in the startup world, having held positions in sales, businessdevelopment, alliances and product-management. Anand holds an MBA from Stanford University and a Masters in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin. 22
