North Stradbroke Island Surf School encourages the development
of surfing on North Stradbroke Island via a variety of
professionally delivered ‘Learn to Surf’ Safe Surfing programs:
Indigenous Surfing Program in partnership with Dunwich
School and Yulu-Burri-Ba Medical Centre
Surfing Australia’s Vegemite Surf Grom Programs
After School Care Private and group lessons
Our mission is to provide each participant with a fun, exciting
and memorable surfing experience that is both safe and
structured. We also offer Surfing Elite programs that work on
improving the surfer’s contest skills through technical analysis,
fitness improvement and mental approach. We strive to
consistently promote the Surfing Queensland brand throughout
the region by providing recognition where possible.

LOCATION:
North Stradbroke Island Surf School operates at Cylinder Beach.
Lookout on the N.E.tip of the Stradbroke Island . The ocean
surrounding Pt Lookout is crystal clear and home to a great
number of Dolphins and Whales that are regularly seen during
lessons. Water temperature doesn’t drop below 19C in mid winter
and rises to a tropical 27C in summer.
Cylinder Beach is an ideally located beach for learn to surf.
Protected from our prevailing S.E. wind and swell so people

can learn to navigate the waves in a relaxed yet engaging
environment. Class sizes are small and very personal meaning
clients make fantastic progress with such one on one instruction.
BACKGROUND:
North Stradbroke Island Surf School began as an initiative of
the Point Lookout Boardriders Club in 1987 to help our young
grommets improve their surfing under the A.S.A.Q banner .
We changed to being called the Surfing Qld North Stradbroke
Island Coaching Academy for many years and then in 2005
North Stradbroke Island Surf School became affiliated with
Surfing Australia.
INSTRUCTORS:
North Stradbroke Island Surf School instructors are all experienced
surfers from the island , many with a competitive background. They
possess qualifications ranging across level 1 and/or 2 coaching
accreditation as well as bronze medallion, first-aid/CPR certification
and current Queensland Blue Card clearance.
WHERE & WHEN:
Cylinder Beach Point Lookout for all learn to surf programs.
Available 7 days a week 364 days on demand. Intermediate
and advanced coaching is conducted at Main, Frenchmans,
Deadmans or Cylinder dependant on conditions.
